Clinical psychologist licensed in Romania (reg. no. 36518) and psychoanalytic psychotherapist in training

Hello, I’m Radu. I came to psychology after twenty years in business. It was a path I first travelled for myself, when I felt the need to stop and understand myself more deeply. I have been licensed to practise as a psychologist since 2025. I studied at the Faculty of Psychology (2022-2025) and completed the Master's in Psychoanalysis (2024-2026) at Titu Maiorescu University (Universitatea Titu Maiorescu), and since 2025 I have been training as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with the Insight Association (Asociația Insight).

The road here was a long one. I worked in leadership positions at technology companies such as Google and Vodafone, designed regulation for technology markets and founded a consulting company that helps organisations transform. I have never stopped learning, starting with business management, an MBA, a doctorate in Economics and other programmes, such as artificial intelligence, at MIT.

As I moved into more senior roles and took on greater responsibilities involving people, such as cultural transformation, something changed. I began to ask myself deeper questions. In midlife, losses and personal challenges brought a need to reinvent myself and made me look at myself differently. In this period of vulnerability and searching, I discovered psychoanalysis. Not as an abstract idea, but as a living experience: both as an analysand and as a student.

Psychoanalysis touched me in a way I did not expect. It gave me a language for understanding what I was feeling, a more solid inner structure, and a promise: the answer to the question “what does it mean to be authentic?” I realised that this is the journey I want to make, for myself and for others.

The theoretical orientations I have focused on so far are psychodynamics and organisational transformation, clinical psychology, and psychoanalysis in the Kleinian, Bionian, Winnicottian, Kohutian and post-Bionian traditions. I am particularly interested in the thinking of André Green, Civitarese and Ferro, in the clinical applications of psychoanalytic field theory, and in developing a psychoanalytic practice that integrates theory with the interpersonal clinical relationship.

From Drives to Truth: A Psychoanalytic Sketch

I propose through this text to make a connection (inevitably naive and forced) between a series of concepts by Freud, Bion, Kohut and Green, linked in a schematic logic, deliberately reductive, which describes the basic functioning of the human psyche, of thinking, of thinking dysfunctions as well as the premises and opportunities of the psychoanalytic therapeutic process, being inspired in this endeavor by reading chapter 6 from the work “Time in the Psychoanalytic Process” by prof. dr. Bogdan Cuc.

I will thus sketch below an integrative construction of how the psychic apparatus transforms pulsional tension and somatic excitations into thoughts, symbols and lasting psychic structures, contrasting two paradigms: (1) the Freudian-Bionian line, in which thinking constitutes itself as a response to the pressure of excitations/frustration, and has a transformation function (α function, K/−K links) and (2) the self-psychology line (Kohut), in which structures are formed in the matrix of relationship with (empathic) self-objects through “transmuting internalization”. In this framework I will integrate André Green's contributions regarding “the work of the negative” and the developments of Bion's thinking proposed by Grotstein and Civitarese, in the direction of conceptualizing a “truth drive”.

Applied Psychoanalysis - Analysis of the Film “The Ballad of a Small Player”

“The Ballad of a Small Player” is a British psychological thriller from 2025, directed by Edward Berger, based on a screenplay adapted from the novel of the same name by Lawrence Osborne. The film stars Colin Farrell and Fala Chen in the main roles.

The film tells the story of Brendan Reilly, an obsessive baccarat player who lives in the world of luxury casinos in Macau. Reilly's life is organized exclusively around extreme bets, debts, and false masks, as evidenced by his assumed name, Lord Doyle, his clothes of false refinement, the luxury bordering on kitsch, and, symbolically, the choice of yellow gloves, uncomfortable yet pretentious.
